952 FXUS65 KVEF 172205 AFDVEF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Las Vegas NV 305 PM PDT Tue Jun 17 2025 .KEY MESSAGES... * Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect Wednesday and Thursday with triple digit highs and warm overnight low temperatures. * Hazardous fire weather conditions are becoming increasingly probable Thursday through Saturday as gusty winds and low humidities develop each afternoon. This may lead to multiple days of increased fire spread potential. * Cooler or "less hot" temperatures expected Sunday into early next week, bringing some relief from the heat. && .DISCUSSION... Upper level high pressure will gradually build into the region over the next 48 hours. This will favor hotter conditions with temperatures some 5-10 degrees above seasonal normals. This combined with warm overnight lows will promote a protracted period of major Heat Risk. As such, Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect Wednesday and Thursday. A gradual cooling of temperatures is expected Friday through the weekend, which will allow for a lesser risk of heat-related impacts. Several days of enhanced fire potential are coming into better focus with the latest ensemble guidance. A slow moving but potent late season upper trough will result in increasing southwesterly winds Thursday through at least Saturday. This coupled with residual heat/low humidities, and drying fuels, looks to promote near critical to critical fire spread potential across portions of the Desert Southwest. The Storm Prediction Center has outlined portions of the area in 40-70% probabilities of critically low humidity and winds beginning Thursday and lasting into Saturday. As confidence increases in precise timing and magnitude of impact, fire weather headlines will likely be needed. As the potent upper trough advertised by the ensembles settles into the Southwest U.S., falling heights will yield a stretch of below normal temperatures for late June. As opposed to our normal low 100s, ensemble analysis points to highs in the 90s Sunday and Monday, perhaps even into Tuesday. The result will be a rather pleasant start to the last week of June by our summer standards. && .AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 00Z Forecast Package...As high pressure builds in over southern Nevada, we look to enter a more diurnal flow pattern. This will result in west/southwest winds this evening, shifting around to the north/northeast after sunrise Wednesday. Winds to generally remain 10 knots or less. Another hot day is on tap Wednesday, with temperatures in the hundreds from 18z- 05z, peaking around 110 degrees at 00z Wednesday. For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast California...For the 00Z Forecast Package...With high pressure building into the region, expect a mainly diurnal wind flow pattern. Aside from KDAG, winds generally look to remain 10-15 knots or less. KDAG will see an increased push of westerlies overnight with gusts up to 20 knots. Otherwise, clear skies and VFR conditions to prevail. && .SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...Spotters are encouraged to report any significant weather or impacts according to standard operating procedures. && $$ KEY MESSAGES/DISCUSSION/AVIATION...Austin For more forecast information...see us on our webpage: https://weather.gov/lasvegas or follow us on Facebook and Twitter
