Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Las Vegas NV
1210 PM PDT Wed Jun 3 2026

.KEY MESSAGES...

* Quiet weather with above-normal temperatures continue through
   the work week.

* A trough approaches this weekend, producing some modest increase
in winds and cooling temperatures slightly.

&&

.DISCUSSION...through Tuesday.

We`ll see a quasi-zonal flow pattern through the end of the work
week, allowing temperatures to continue their gradual warming trend.
Warmest days will be Thursday and Friday, with highs largely ranging
from 95-110 degrees across the region. This yields widespread
moderate HeatRisk, with a pocket of major HeatRisk in the Las Vegas
Valley thanks to warm overnight lows caused by the urban heat island
effect. Those sensitive to the heat, planning to be outdoors for
long periods of time, or without adequate cooling or water should
take precautions to protect from heat-related impacts.

The pattern begins to change this weekend and into next week as a
moves into the western US and lingers. Since the bulk of the forcing
stays to our north and there is meager moisture to work with,
precipitation chances with this system are confined to the Great
Basin. The most noticeable changes with this trough will be the
cooler temperatures and increased southwest winds. Highs are
forecast to drop 6-12 degrees from Friday to Sunday, bringing us
back to seasonable values. On the wind side, looking at peak gusts
on Saturday and Sunday generally 25-45 mph. Strongest winds will be
in our typical southwesterly wind belt (basically ~75-100 miles on
either side of the I-15 corridor), where there is a 50-80% chance of
minor wind impacts. Perhaps the greatest concern will be the
increased fire danger with low RH values, gusty conditions, and
fuels that are approaching critical. Winds subside but remain breezy
next week as the trough lingers.

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 18Z Forecast Package...A period
of southeast winds with intermittent gusts to around 15 knots is
expected early this afternoon, swinging around to the south by 00Z.
Occasional gusts will persist through sunset. Winds will decrease
overnight, becoming light and variable by sunrise. Similar wind
patterns are expected on Thursday, with occasional gusts out of the
southeast developing during the afternoon. Temperatures this
afternoon will top out near 103F, with readings exceeding 100F
between 20Z and 03Z. A high around 106F is expected Thursday
afternoon.

For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...For the 18Z Forecast Package...Across the region, winds
will generally remain between 5 and 10 knots and follow typical
daily directional patterns through Thursday. The exceptions will be
in the Colorado River Valley, where breezy south-southwest winds
will pick up this afternoon, and across the western Mojave Desert,
where breezy westerly winds will increase around 00Z today. Other
areas will see occasional gusts of 10 to 20 knots during peak
afternoon heating. VFR conditions will prevail through Thursday with
no operationally significant cloud cover expected.
