987 FXUS65 KVEF 031108 AFDVEF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Las Vegas NV 310 AM PST Mon Nov 3 2025 .KEY MESSAGES... * Dry conditions, light winds, and warmer than normal temperatures will continue through Tuesday. * Winds will increase and temperatures will decrease in the middle of the week as a low pressure system moves through the Great Basin. && .DISCUSSION...through Sunday. Temperatures across the region will top out around 6 to 10 degrees above normal today and tomorrow as we continue to find ourselves under higher than normal 500 mb heights. Light winds and dry conditions will accompany these above normal temperatures along with mid-level and high clouds filtering through the Southwestern US today and tomorrow. A shortwave trough will move through the Great Basin during the middle of the week, resulting in an uptick in winds, a decrease in temperatures, and a slight chance of precipitation for the eastern Sierra Crest. Winds across the area will peak on Wednesday, with the NBM continuing to paint the northern Owens Valley and eastern Sierra with the strongest winds of the event, indicating the potential for gusty downslope winds. Currently, guidance shows peak wind gusts in the 40 to 55 mph range for the northern Owens Valley with stronger winds in the eastern Sierra and their foothills. Elsewhere, peak wind gusts are expected to be in the 20 to 40 mph range with isolated gusts in excess of 40 mph in areas of higher terrain. As this system rolls through, the eastern Sierra crest will see a 15 to 30% chance of light precipitation on Wednesday, with liquid precipitation totals of 0.20 inches or less and a dusting of snow possible. As 500 mb heights decrease with the passage of this system, we will see temperatures gradually return to more seasonal values by Thursday. Beyond Thursday, we will see the return of mild weather as ridging attempts to reestablish itself over the Southwest as we head into the weekend. && .AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 12Z Forecast Package...Light winds following typical diurnal directional patterns will continue through the forecast period.
