.KEY MESSAGES...

*  Breezy south-southwesterly wind gusts expected across the region
   Friday through the weekend. Continued dry conditions with these
   winds will lead to fire danger.

*  Temperatures cool through the weekend.

.DISCUSSION...through Thursday

After hazardously hot conditions from a strong high pressure, the
pattern finally changes into Saturday. A trough is deepening over the
Pacific Northwest and push inland and south into Saturday. This will
help shift the the high pressure eastward, but the space between
these systems will narrow, leading to a stronger pressure gradient
and increasing winds. Breezy winds build through Saturday morning
and will peak that afternoon with widespread gusts above 30 mph
possible and above 40 mph in higher terrain and within favored gaps
and passes. This coupled with very dry conditions will increase fire
weather concerns. Fire Red Flag Warning will go in effect at 11 AM
for Esmeralda, Nye, and portions of Lincoln and Clark counties and
will last into late Saturday night. Winds look to reduce for Sunday
but remain breezy. Longer term models keep breezy winds peaking
around 25 mph each afternoon into the first half of next week, but
winds look to ease in the late week.

As the high pressure pushes east and focuses over Texas,
temperatures (both highs and lows) will begin to decrease through
the weekend. High temps will fall back to around average (90s to
low 100s) before the work week. Low temperatures will see some
reduction, but will plateau in the early work week, and stay
around 5 degrees above average.

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 18Z Forecast
Package...Breezy south to southwest winds are expected through the
afternoon. Gusts over 20KT are likely (80% chance) with a low chance
(20%) for gusts over 25KT. South winds will diminish after sunset
slightly but will gust through most of the night. Similar winds are
expected Sunday with south to southwest winds gusting over 20KT
Sunday late morning and afternoon. Dry conditions with VFR skies
persisting through the period. Temperatures will exceed 100 degrees
between 20Z and 02Z today and Sunday.

For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...For the 18Z Forecast Package...Breezy south to
southwest winds are expected through the afternoon with widespread
gusts 20-30KT. KDAG will see a lag in gusts, not seeing gusts
develop until around 00Z. Winds will drop back this evening but will
remain elevated in many locations overnight as south winds over 10KT
persist through the night. The exception will be the Colorado River
Valley where light south to southeast winds are expected after 09Z.
Similar winds are expected on Sunday as southerly to southwesterly
gusts develop late morning and continue through the afternoon. VFR
skies with no precipitation expected through the period.

.FIRE WEATHER...A Red Flag Warning and is in effect from 11AM
Saturday through midnight for Nye, Esmeralda, and portions of
Lincoln and Clark counties. Concerns include RH ranging from 5 to
15% while winds increase to 25 MPH and gusts to around 35 MPH.
Winds will continue into the overnight as humidities begin to
recover by late that night.
