Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Las Vegas NV
359 PM PDT Fri Oct 2 2026

.KEY MESSAGES...

* Above-normal temperatures and quiet conditions continue into
  next week as high pressure dominates.

&&

.DISCUSSION...Through Thursday

A persistent ridge will be the main driver of weather over the
southwestern United States for the foreseeable future. This pattern
will maintain above normal temperatures, with afternoon highs 5 to
10 degrees above normal for early October. This includes highs in
the mid 90s in Las Vegas and the upper 100s in Death Valley. The
position of the ridge will direct any atmospheric moisture away from
the area, which will keep precipitation out of the forecast. Winds
will be light on most days. A weak shortwave may bring breezy
easterly to southeasterly winds to parts of southern Nevada and
southeastern California on Sunday and knock temperatures down a few
degrees on Monday, but the ridge will rebound Tuesday through the
end of the week.

&&

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 00Z Forecast Package...Winds
will remain light and follow typical daily directional patterns
through Saturday evening. The chance of seeing sustained speeds of
10 knots or greater is less than 10 percent, although a random gust
to 15 knots cannot be ruled out during peak afternoon heating today
and Saturday. VFR conditions will prevail through Saturday with only
a few high clouds expected.

For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...For the 00Z Forecast Package...Light winds following
typical daily directional patterns are expected at regional TAF
sites through Saturday. Breezy conditions are forecast each
afternoon across the western Mojave Desert and southern Great Basin,
but gusts should remain 25 knots or less and generally be from a
southerly or easterly direction. VFR conditions will prevail through
Saturday with only a few high clouds expected.

&&

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...Spotters are encouraged to report
