051 FXUS65 KVEF 190453 AFDVEF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Las Vegas NV 953 PM PDT Wed Jun 18 2025 .KEY MESSAGES... * Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect for through Thursday with triple digit highs and warm overnight low temperatures. * Dangerous fire weather conditions are expected Thursday through Saturday as gusty winds and afternoon humidities in the single digits develop each afternoon. Winds diminish on Sunday and remain lower into early next week. * Cooler temperatures are in store beginning Sunday as temperatures cool to below normal. && .DISCUSSION...Today through Next Wednesday Hot temperatures remain across the region as high pressure continues through today. The Extreme Heat Warning out for much of the area will continue through tomorrow with temperatures about 5-10 degrees above normal. These high temps coupled with little relief at night make the heat much more dangerous and has contributed to major HeatRisk aross the lower elevations of the Mojave Desert. As the ridge of high pressure breaks down a bit on Thursday afternoon, a shortwave will move into the area. This will bring increased winds, causing dangerous fire weather conditions. A Red Flag Warning is in effect for Thursday and Friday for much of southern Nevada and Mohave County. Dangerous fire weather conditions will continue through Saturday over a smaller area. As the Pacific trough moves in over the weekend, winds will decrease on Sunday and much cooler temperatures will bring some well needed relief from the extreme heat. Below normal temperatures will make a brief appearance Sunday and Monday before they return to near normal by Tuesday across the area. && .AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 06Z Forecast Package...South southwest winds tonight will become light early Thursday morning, then shift to southerly with gusts of 20 to 30 knots from late morning through the afternoon. Temperature rising back to 100F 18- 19Z Thursday on the way to a high around 108F near 00Z. VFR conditions prevail. For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast California...For the 06Z Forecast Package...Expect wind gusts less than 20 knots tonight into Thursday morning. During the day Thursday, south to southwest winds will increase, with gusts of 20 to 30 knots common across the region.
