Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Las Vegas NV

.KEY MESSAGES...

* Seasonably warm and quiet weather anticipated through the work
  week.

* A trough approaches this weekend, increasing winds and cooling
  temperatures slightly.

&&

.DISCUSSION...through Sunday.

A quasi-zonal/split flow pattern during the work week will keep
conditions rather quiet. Temperatures are anticipated to run 0-5
degrees above normal, resulting in widespread minor to moderate
HeatRisk. Winds will be breezy at times, but are unlikely to be
impactful. Chances for impactful gusts are really confined to
western San Bernardino County and the lower Colorado River Valley,
and only stand at ~30%. Meanwhile, precipitation chances remain
below 10% areawide.

A bit of a pattern shift arrives over the weekend as ensemble
guidance brings a trough into the western US. There remains some
uncertainty in the strength and evolution of this system, but at the
moment this system appears to be mainly a wind maker. Expecting
increased southwest winds this weekend with a slight reduction in
temperatures. Best chances for wind impacts are across the western
Mojave Desert and the lower Colorado River Valley where odds are 40-
70%. With limited moisture ahead of the trough, precipitation
chances remain below 10%.

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 12Z Forecast Package...Winds
today will generally follow typical daily directional patterns,
with some variability later this morning. A brief period of
southeasterly winds is expected through mid- afternoon before
winds settle out of the southwest. Sustained speeds through the
evening are expected to remain around 8-10KT, however there is a
40% chance for intermittent higher gusts to 12-15KT through late
evening. Thereafter, winds become light and trend variable by
daybreak Tuesday. VFR conditions will continue with no
operationally significant cloud cover expected.

For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...For the 12Z Forecast Package...Winds across the
region will generally follow typical daily directional patterns
the next 24 hours and remain around 5-10KT with a few exceptions.
First, along the Lower Colorado River Valley from KIFP to KEED,
terrain-enhanced south-southwesterly winds will intermittently
gust to around 20KT this afternoon before diminishing after
sunset. Additionally, winds across the western Mojave Desert/KDAG
will increase late this afternoon into tonight, with sustained
speeds increasing to 15KT with gusts to around 25KT. KHND, in the
southern Las Vegas Valley, may also see a prolonged period of
intermittently gusty southwesterly winds overnight. Otherwise, VFR
conditions will continue with no operationally significant cloud
cover expected.
