314 FXUS65 KVEF 221944 AFDVEF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Las Vegas NV 1244 PM PDT Wed Jul 22 2026 .KEY MESSAGES... * Monsoonal moisture remains in place over the region, though daily storm coverage will tend to decrease late in the week and over the weekend. * Temperatures warm through the weekend, reaching dangerous levels across the Mojave Desert Thursday through Monday. && .DISCUSSION...through Tuesday. Morning satellite imagery looks quite different from this time yesterday, with mostly clear skies across the area. While there will be plenty of surface heating today today and tomorrow, a slight decrease in moisture and rising heights aloft will result in a reduction of convective coverage each day. Best odds (20-40%) remain on the edges of the CWA (northwestern AZ, southern Great Basin, and Sierra). Ensemble guidance indicates a strengthening of southeasterly flow aloft on Friday, producing a brief increase in moisture and precipitation chances, but moisture quickly returns to current levels over the weekend as the high builds. Any shower/storm activity over the weekend should be sparse. Isolated flash flooding and gusty outflow winds remain the primary convective hazards. As the aforementioned high builds, temperatures are forecast to gradually but steadily climb. Heat looks to peak over the weekend, but will be at dangerous levels across the Mojave Desert Thursday through Monday. Forecast highs aren`t record-breaking, but enough to feel oppressive when combined with the lingering moisture. The bigger story is the overnight lows. Forecast low temperatures are generally 85-95 degrees across the Mojave Desert. Unless you are lucky enough to get an afternoon shower/storm, don`t expect any notable relief from the heat over the next several days. We may start to see a break from the heat early/middle of next week as the high gets pushed east and moisture tries to increase. && .AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 18Z Forecast Package... Winds will follow typical daily directional trends while remaining less than 10 knots. Less cloud cover is expected today though some scattered cumulus build ups will develop in the afternoon favoring the higher terrain surrounding the valley. Temperatures will exceed 100F from 19z-04z with a forecasted high of 106F. For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast California...For the 18Z Forecast Package...Isolated thunderstorm activity today will mainly be confined to the Sierra and southern Great Basin regions, with VCTS in the TAF for KBIH from mid afternoon into the evening hours. By Friday. thunderstorms will be isolated to the southern Great Basin. Otherwise, just a few cumulus build ups favoring the higher terrain in the afternoon. Winds will generally be light across the region, though westerly winds with gusts to 20-25 knots will persist around KDAG especially in the evening hours. && .SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...Spotters are encouraged to report any significant weather or impacts according to standard operating procedures. && $$ DISCUSSION...Woods AVIATION...Czyzyk For more forecast information...see us on our webpage: https://weather.gov/lasvegas or follow us on Facebook and Twitter
