966 FXUS65 KVEF 251714 AFDVEF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Las Vegas NV 1014 AM PDT Wed Jun 25 2025 .KEY MESSAGES... * Dry conditions are likely through the weekend. Moisture may increase early next week. * Haze is possible today due to smoke aloft from fires in Baja California. * Below-normal temperatures are expected today before rising to near normal and then above normal into the weekend. && .DISCUSSION...through Tuesday. Midnight satellite loop showed the weakening upper low moving away to the east and taking the clouds with it. Surface obs showed locally breezy winds and temperatures near to slightly cooler than 24 hours ago. No meaningful change to forecast reasoning. Areas of hazy skies can be expected again today, but coverage should be less than yesterday, and still less tomorrow as 500-300 mb winds turn more west northwesterly. Heights will slowly rise over our area through Sunday as high pressure builds to the east, pushing temperatures to near normal for late June by tomorrow and above normal by the weekend. Monsoon flow is already evident into New Mexico, and this should slowly push farther west through the weekend. Models still agree on low pressure nearing the California coast by Monday and Tuesday, but are still showing a wide spatial spread with precip forecasts, reflecting continued uncertainty in how much (if any) monsoon moisture will be pulled west by this low. Slight chances for thunderstorms are in the forecast for far eastern Mohave County as early as Monday, spreading farther west on Tuesday. Forecast details will almost certainly change between now and then, but the main message is that summer thunderstorm season is on its way. && .AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 18Z Forecast Package... Winds will largely remain diurnal and 10 knots or less. Winds may briefly turn southeast between 2600z and 2605z. Winds to eventually become variable overnight, then turn north/northeast by 14-16z Thurs. Temperatures to top out right around 100 degrees between 22z and 01z. Aside from some limited smoke/haze from distant wildfires, skies to remain clear with VFR conditions. For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast California...For the 18Z Forecast Package...Winds will largely remain diurnally driven and 10 knots or less. The one exception will be KDAG, where westerly evening/overnight wind surges will bring winds up to 10-15 knots. Otherwise expect mostly clear skies with perhaps a bit of haze from distant wildfires. && .SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...Spotters are encouraged to report any significant weather or impacts according to standard operating procedures. && $$ KEY MESSAGES/DISCUSSION...Morgan AVIATION...Austin For more forecast information...see us on our webpage: https://weather.gov/lasvegas or follow us on Facebook and Twitter
