.KEY MESSAGES...

- Drier conditions expected much of the week with a warming
 trend.

- Elevated south-southwesterly wind gusts expected across the
 region in the late week with slight chances for storms on higher
 terrain.

.DISCUSSION...Today through Sunday

The building cloud cover and lingering humidity will help make this
afternoon be the coolest of the forecast with the upper 80s to mid
90s expected for most of the valley. The upper level pattern will
focus moisture farther to the east into the work week, leading to
drying conditions and allowing temperatures to increase as pressure
builds. As of the current forecast, temperatures look to peak on
Thursday with highs around 105 degrees for most of the valley, and
looking to exceed 110 degrees in favored warmer areas. Overnight
temperatures will also climb over the next few days, peaking in the
mid 80s to low 90s. These warming temperatures will increase
HeatRisk, with Major HeatRisk expected in the desert valleys for
Thursday. A pattern shift in the late week will offer a quick
cooling trend, bringing temperatures to near average over the
weekend.

This late week pattern change will also increase winds aross the
CWA. A trough builds to the north-northwest, and approaches the high
pressure to our east. This will lead to a stronger pressure gradient
and funnel winds between the two pressure systems, offering stronger
south to southwest winds across the CWA. Widespread winds above 20
mph with gusts above 30 mph will be possible Friday afternoon, with
the potential for infrequent gusts around 40 mph. Saturday and
Sunday`s afternoons call for slightly stronger winds and gusts than
Friday, with most areas seeing peak winds on Saturday and some
easing on Sunday. Longer-term models are in fair agreement over
these winds, and also that winds ease into the next work week.

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 00Z Forecast Package...
Southwest breezes continue through the night, weakening after
sunset. Tomorrow, expecting a more typical wind pattern with light
east winds during the day and turning to the southwest around
sunset. Chance of 10+ knot winds on Tuesday peaks at ~25% in the
afternoon. Few to scattered mid-level and high clouds with high
temperatures just below 100F.

For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...For the 00Z Forecast Package...Southerly to westerly
breezes persist until sunset with gusts 15-25 knots. Light
showers/virga continue to linger across southern San Bernardino and
Mohave counties, but dry conditions elsewhere. Near the
showers/virga, scattered to broken clouds at or above 10kft are
likely. Elsewhere few to scattered mid-level and high clouds. Light
winds overnight and on Tuesday, generally following their typical,
daily patterns.
