.DISCUSSION...
Showers are ongoing through the late afternoon, with widespread
light rain starting to move east across the zone early Tuesday
morning. Associated with the rain Tuesday will be strong southerly
winds, with valleys likely seeing sustained winds of 10 to 20
mph, and gusts reaching near 30 mph; strongest winds west of
Huslia and Ambler, with a particular focus around the Seward
Peninsula. For any fires at elevation and along upper ridges, like
the Wheeler Fire, expect sustained winds of 25 mph, gusting to
35. These winds will build overnight Monday, reaching peak
intensity early Tuesday. Through Tuesday smoky conditions will
improve due to this wind and rain. High pressure develops behind
this storm system on Wednesday with warmer and drier conditions
expected Thursday into the weekend. The exception could be near
the YK delta where more rain is possible Friday night as southwest
flow holds in place.
