.DISCUSSION...High pressure remains over the state, keeping conditions
hot and dry still. Isolated and widely scattered thunderstorms
are possible during the afternoon/evening hours Thursday and
Friday. Highest thunderstorm chances for today will mainly be for
the Western Interior, with thunderstorm coverage expanding
farther east on Friday. These storms will be accompanied with
frequent lightning, heavy rain, and gusty erratic winds. High
temperatures across the Western Interior will range in the upper
70s and low 80s through the period, with cooler temperatures along
the coast in the mid to upper 60s. Min RH values will range in
the 30% to 35% range for much of the Western Interior, with the
lowest RH values expected in the Kobuk Valley and Koyukuk Basin.
Light west winds are expected across the Western Interior, with
moderate north/northwest winds out along the coast through
tomorrow night. Winds shift towards the east/southeast for the
Western Interior Friday afternoon, as winds gradually increase to
about 12 mph out of the south for the Lower Yukon region.
