Updated to extend the comment period through July 28, 2025. The National Weather Service (NWS) is modernizing its dissemination services, including updating and consolidating disparate dissemination applications into more modern, scalable and useful services. As part of this process, the NWS is soliciting comments through July 28, 2025 on the potential retirement of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Regional Association IV Global Telecommunication System (GTS) Internet File Service (RA-IV GIFS). The NWS would provide all the data available in RA-IV GIFS via other alternative operational platforms, and allow users a transition overlap period. The URL for the RA-IV GIFS webpage is: https://ra4-gifs.weather.gov/ Alternatives for the RA-IV GIFS Website include: 1) Global WMO Information System 2.0 (WIS2): The US WIS2 node is operational and will feature a Publish-Subscribe (PubSub) service in the future.
