891 NOUS41 KWBC 091655 AAA PNSWSH Public Information Statement 25-65 Updated National Weather Service Headquarters Washington DC 1255 PM EDT Thu OCT 8 2025 To: Subscribers: -NOAA Weather Wire Service -Emergency Managers Weather Information Network -NOAAPort -Predictive Services program Other NWS partners and NWS employees From: William Bunting, Deputy Director Storm Prediction Center Subject: Updated: Soliciting comments through November 7, 2025 for termination of Miscellaneous Fire Weather Product (FWM) used to produce National Fire Danger Rating System (NFDRS) forecasts. Updated to correct the product name, add a link to the USDA Forest Service Fire Environment Mapping System (FEMS), and add links to additional products derived from the FWM that are no longer being produced. The National Weather Service (NWS) is collecting comments through November 7, 2025 on the proposed discontinuation of the NFDRS FWM product. After October 1, 2025, NFDRS forecasts for the Nation are being generated using existing NWS forecast gridded data. As a result, a specific FWM will not be necessary for fire danger calculations. The FWM product ceased being ingested into NFDRS models after October 1, 2025. The replacement system for the Weather Information Management System (WIMS) is the FEMS. Guidance on using FEMS can be found at this link: https://www.wildfire.gov/application/fems The link to the FEMS system is here: https://fems.fs2c.usda.gov/ The affected product details are found in the table below. With WIMS decommissioned at the end of September 2025, the WIMS- issued FDI, FWN, and FWO products are no longer being received by the NWS and disseminated by the NWS. Product Name AWIPS ID ----------------------------- -------- Miscellaneous Fire Weather Product FWM Fire Weather Notification FWN Fire Weather Observation FWO Fire Danger Indices FDI All KMWI products coming from USDA are discontinued.
