...FLOOD WARNING FOR AN ICE JAM IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON AKDT MONDAY...
...REPLACES FLOOD WATCH...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by an ice jam is imminent.

* WHERE...Buckland River near Buckland.

* WHEN...Until noon AKDT Monday.

* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying
  and flood-prone locations is imminent. Flooding as well as large
  blocks of ice being pushed onshore. Water will remain high until
  the ice jam releases.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - At 419 PM AKDT,
    The Buckland River is slowly breaking up, with some open
    water in front of town, mix of intact ice and open water
    directly upstream and mostly open water in the headwaters.
    Ice remains mostly intact downriver from Buckland, including
    at known jam points.

    A local observer reports that water has come up several feet
    over the last 24 hours, with less than a foot to go til
    bankfull. With plentiful snow left to melt in the basin,
    there is potential for flooding as early as tonight if ice
    downriver fails to deteriorate sufficiently fast to
    compensate for the influx of snowmelt. Much will depend on
    the strength and thickness of ice downriver.

  - Some locations that will experience flooding include...
    Buckland.

  - If you live near or along the Buckland River stay alert and be
  prepared to take action.

television, or NOAA Weather Radio for further information.

deaths occur in vehicles.
