Fire Weather Planning Forecast for West Texas/Southeast New Mexico
National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
245 PM CDT Wed May 8 2024

...RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM CDT /8 PM MDT/
THIS EVENING FOR RELATIVE HUMIDITY OF 15% OR LESS, 20-FT WINDS OF
20 MPH OR MORE, AND VERY HIGH TO EXTREME FIRE DANGER FOR
SOUTHEAST NEW MEXICO AND WEST TEXAS SOUTH TO THE PRESIDIO
VALLEY...

.DISCUSSION...

Critical fire weather conditions continue to be dryline dependent,
and confined to areas that did not receive rainfall last week. An
incoming cold front Thursday night, and possible rainfall this
weekend, will largely dictate if, when, and where critical fire
weather conditions develop over the next week. At this time,
critical fire weather conditions look to redevelop over the higher
terrain of West Texas beginning Sunday. Recovery overnight will
be excellent in the extreme northeast, but only poor to moderate
elsewhere. Recovery Thursday night will be poor in the Presidio
Valley, but moderate to excellent elsewhere. Relative humidity
will bottom out at 4-40% Thursday afternoon, and 14-51% Friday.
