Area Forecast Discussion

.DISCUSSION...
Open cumuli clouds continue to move across the territory
throughout the day. This feature is associated with a ridge of
high pressure currently over the territory. Also, afternoon
showers are likely produced from these terrain induced clouds.
These conditions will continue for tonight and throughout the
week. However, with winds remaining light and variable generally
from the north, tonight through at least midweek, a trough to the
north and east will likely move into the area by lat Tuesday early
Wednesday. This will increase the potential for showers over the
islands. Upper air data from this afternoon (25/00Z) and the last
couple of RAOB solutions, shows an increasing trend of showers
over the territory, but still below flash flooding criterias.
Additionally, expect daily temperatures to be warmer than normal
temperatures.

As the high pressure system is expected to remain over the
territory throughout the forecast period, expect scattered to
numerous showers with light and variable winds. Winds will likely
turn east by Thursday, increasing to moderate breeze on Saturday
through the end of the period.

The latest satellite swaths show heights around 4 to 6 feet. This
is further supported by the latest Wave Watch III (WWIII) model
run. Combined seas of 4 to 6 feet with long periods peaking around
20 seconds is expected for the week. With long periods, surfs are
likely enhanced and rip currents become stronger. Long period
energy from the north-northwest will arrive by at least Monday
through midweek, followed by a south-southwest energy on Thursday
through the end of the period. The advisory for small crafts is
now cancelled. Will continue to monitor as more data becomes
available.
