310 FXUS65 KVEF 110527 AFDVEF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Las Vegas NV 1026 PM PDT Thu Jul 10 2025 .KEY MESSAGES... * Hot and dry conditions will likely continue through the weekend and into early next week as ridging persists across the region. && .DISCUSSION...This afternoon through the middle of next week. Broad ridging will remain over the forecast area into next week, although the exact placement and intensity of the ridge will vary at times. Through the weekend, long-range ensembles are in agreement that the area of high pressure will remain centered over southern California, maintaining slightly above-normal height anomalies through Saturday. This will result in temperatures remaining above normal, along with keeping light winds and mainly clear skies. By late in the weekend and early next week, model ensembles indicate that the ridge will shift eastward, which is expected to increase temperatures by a few degrees. Patchy areas of Major HeatRisk levels return Sunday and Monday across the Mojave Desert, and to a lesser extent in the Colorado River Valley. Starting from Tuesday on, heights begin to fall as an easterly wave moving into eastern Mexico pushes the ridge to the west. This wave may also introduce some moisture in the area by the second half of the week, which would also help to keep readings down. There is also a low chance for precipitation on Wednesday across northwest Arizona, but confidence is low on if and where rain may occur. && .AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 06Z Forecast Package...Expect breezy winds around 8 kts with wind directions following typical diurnal patterns... east-northeasterly picking up late-morning, southeasterly through the afternoon, and southwesterly around sunset, with a brief period of light and variable winds in the early morning. Slantwise visibility reductions expected to the north through the TAF period, with a possible cloud layer needed over the terminal after sunset on Friday due to wildfire smoke from Nye County, NV. For the rest of southern Nevada, northwestern Arizona and southeastern California...For the 06Z Forecast Package...Expect breezy winds in the Las Vegas Valley around 8 kts with generally a diurnal direction trend.
