Hydrologic Statement

For the Rifle River...The following locations are included: Sterling.

Recent rainy weather has resulted in rises and high water levels on
some northern Michigan rivers. The Rifle River near Sterling is at
5.89 feet this evening. Flood stage is 6 feet.

Though no additional rainfall is forecast, runoff from yesterdays
rain will keep the river near flood stage through tonight. River
levels will start to decrease during the day on Saturday.

People with interests along the Rifle River should monitor river
levels. Move property away from the river and to higher ground if

The National Weather Service in Gaylord will closely monitor river
levels...and will issue additional statements or warnings as
conditions warrant.
