Survey Summary:
The National Weather Service in Buffalo investigated an area of
concentrated storm damage from a mesoscale convective complex that
moved south through north-central New York across the Tug Hill
early in the morning on Sunday June 22nd. The National Weather
Service storm survey team investigated the damage in southwest
Lewis County today and confirmed strong downburst winds estimated
at 80-90 mph occurring shortly before 730 AM EDT with this line of
storms.

Damage from the event mostly occurred north and northwest of
Osceola, NY along N Osceola Rd and Prince Brook Rd. The greatest
concentration of damage was along Prince Brook Rd with numerous
uprooted and snapped hardwood and softwood trees. While cleanup
efforts were already underway, the direction of damage was
primarily to the south, consistent with the propagation of the
convective complex. Additionally, the majority of the snapped
trees were less than 5 inches in diameter or showed signs of
previous rot. A couple structures suffered roof damage due to
nearby uprooted trees. Drone footage provided by local emergency
management gave a bird`s-eye view of the concentrated damage area
along a 1 mile stretch of Prince Brook Rd.

The National Weather Service in Buffalo extends our thanks to
Lewis County Emergency Services for their assistance with today`s
survey.
