Weather Summary for Western and North Central Nebraska
National Weather Service North Platte NE
949 AM CDT Mon May 6 2024 /849 AM MDT Mon May 6 2024/

Strong southerly winds developed overnight in advance of a strong
upper level low pressure system. Southerly winds pushed gulf
moisture into western and north central Nebraska overnight leading
to abundant low clouds and mild temperatures. Overnight lows were
very mild with readings in the lower to middle 50s, some 15 to 20
degrees above normal.

The upper level low will migrate east into the Black Hills today.
This will force a dryline and Pacific cold front through western
and north central Nebraska. As the front approaches the highway 83
corridor, thunderstorms are expected to initiate and may become
severe with large hail, damaging winds, and an isolated tornado
possible. The threat for severe weather is expected to end by late
afternoon across western and north central Nebraska.

As the upper level low migrates northeast into southwestern North
Dakota tonight, strong westerly and northwesterly winds will
develop. Wind gusts up to 50 MPH are possible especially over
northwestern Nebraska. Skies will be partly to mostly cloudy and
overnight lows will range from the upper 30s in western Nebraska
to the lower 40s in portions of central and north central
Nebraska.
