A strong storm system will bring periods of rain and gusty winds
to lower elevations of western Nevada and far northeast California,
from late this evening into Thursday evening. Another round of
wind is likely Friday followed by chances for snow Friday night
through Sunday.

* RAIN: Areas of rain develop tonight, with rainfall becoming more
widespread and heavier Thursday. Moderate to heavy rain is
possible at times, with amounts exceeding 1 inch possible in
some foothill locations around Reno, Carson City and Minden.
Lighter amounts are likely in the lower valleys. This rain could
produce rises on small streams and ponding in low lying areas
and street intersections, especially in locations where snow
cover remains from last week`s storm.

* WINDS: Gusty winds could bring periodic travel impacts to
aviation and for high-profile vehicles, along with choppy
conditions on area lakes. Wind gusts of 35-40 mph are most
likely this evening and again Thursday. Stronger winds are
  possible Friday.

Now is the time to complete preparations for this wind and rain,
which includes clearing snow from storm drains, and securing loose
outdoor items such as patio furniture, trash cans and canopies.
