DROUGHT INFORMATION STATEMENT...CORRECTED
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TIYAN GU

...DROUGHT ENDING IN THE REPUBLIC OF THE MARSHALL ISLANDS...

SYNOPSIS...
A WET TRADEWIND REGIME HAS REPLACED THE DRIER TRADEWIND REGIME
ACROSS THE NORTHERN MARSHALL ISLANDS. UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCES ARE
INDUCING DEEP RAINSHOWERS AND PROVIDING PERIODS OF HEAVY RAIN ACROSS
THE NORTHERN MARSHALL ISLANDS. THIS WILL BE THE FINAL DROUGHT
INFORMATION STATEMENT FOR THE MARSHALL ISLANDS.

THE DROUGHT FOR GUAM AND THE CNMI WAS DECLARED OVER IN THE 8 AUGUST
DROUGHT INFORMATION STATEMENT. MONSOON SYSTEMS HAVE ALREADY
GENERATED SEVERAL TROPICAL CYCLONES NORTH AND WEST OF THE MARIANAS
AND EXTENDED PERIODS OF HEAVY RAINS ACROSS THE MARIANA ISLANDS.

THE LATEST OPERATIONAL U.S. DROUGHT MONITOR SHOWS THAT KWAJALEIN AND
UTIRIK OF THE RMI HAVE IMPROVED TO MODERATE DROUGHT D1-L (LONG-TERM
DROUGHT LEVEL 1 OF 4)...WHILE WOTJE HAS IMPROVED TO MODERATE DROUGHT
OR LEVEL D1-SL (SHORT AND LONG-TERM DROUGHT LEVEL 1 OF 4). JALUIT IS
AT SEVERE DROUGHT LEVEL D2-SL (SHORT-TERM AND LONG-TERM DROUGHT
LEVEL 2 OF 4). OTHER LOCATIONS ARE DESIGNATED ABNORMALLY DRY OR NO
DROUGHT. IMPROVEMENT IS EXPECTED IN ALL AREAS.

SUMMARY OF IMPACTS...

MARSHALL ISLANDS...

FAR NORTHERN ISLANDS...

UTIRIK HAS RECEIVED 2.43 INCHES OF RAIN DURING 5 OF THE LAST 7 DAYS.
THIS DISTRIBUTION HAS ALLOWED UTIRIK TO LOWER ITS DROUGHT SEVERITY
CLASSIFICATION. WOTJE RECEIVED 1.10 INCHES OF RAIN IN THE LAST WEEK
AND ITS DROUGHT SEVERITY CLASSIFICATION IS SIGNIFICANTLY IMPROVED.

MARIANA ISLANDS...

SAIPAN AND GUAM HAVE HAD 2 TO 3 INCHES OF RAIN OVER THE PAST
WEEK...WHILE ROTA HAS HAD 3.62 INCHES. ALL OF THE MARIANA ISLANDS
ARE NO LONGER UNDER ANY DROUGHT SEVERITY CLASSIFICATION.

CLIMATE SUMMARY...

PRECIPITATION/TEMPERATURE OUTLOOK...
CLOUDIER CONDITIONS SHOULD REDUCE INCOMING RADIATION WHICH SHOULD IN
TURN LOWER DAYTIME TEMPERATURES. IF DAYTIME WINDS BECOME
LIGHT...THEN TEMPERATURES COULD AGAIN INCREASE DURING THE DAY.

THE MARSHALL ISLANDS...

ISLANDS NORTH OF MAJURO...
RAINFALL NORTH OF 10 NORTH LATITUDE MAY REACH 1 TO 2 INCHES DURING
THE NEXT TWO WEEKS. KWAJALEIN/EBEYE AND NEARBY ATOLLS COULD RECEIVE
6 TO 8 INCHES THROUGH THE NEXT 2 WEEKS. THE NORTHERN MARSHALL
ISLANDS SHOULD RECEIVE ADEQUATE RAINFALL FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE
YEAR.

CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN MARSHALL ISLANDS INCLUDING MAJURO...
COMPUTER MODELS INDICATE RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF ROUGHLY 6 TO 7 INCHES
FOR THE NEXT 2 WEEKS FOR AILINGALAPLAP IN THE NORTH TO MILI IN THE
SOUTH.

THE MARIANA ISLANDS...

GUAM AND THE COMMONWEALTH OF THE NORTHERN MARIANA ISLANDS...
AFTER A VERY WET FIRST WEEK OF AUGUST...RAIN WILL LET UP A BIT WITH
ABOUT AN INCH OVER THE NEXT 2 WEEKS. A WET SEASON PATTERN IS IN
PLACE AND SHOULD REMAIN THAT WAY FOR THE NEXT FEW MONTHS.

&&

NEXT ISSUANCE DATE...
THIS IS THE FINAL DROUGHT INFORMATION STATEMENT FOR THIS EVENT.

&&

SPECIAL NOTE...IN SEPTEMBER...THE PACIFIC ENSO APPLICATIONS CLIMATE
CENTER WILL CHANGE TO THE PACIFIC ENSO APPLICATIONS CLIMATE SERVICES
PROGRAM. THE ACRONYM WILL REMAIN AS PEAC.
