Weather Summary for Iowa
National Weather Service Des Moines IA
414 AM CDT Sun Jul 12 2020

After a day of stormy weather over much of Iowa, conditions have quieted
down considerably. Early this morning temperatures remain in the lower
to mid 60s over most of the region with light northwest winds over
eastern Iowa and light and variable winds west. Skies are clear to
partly cloudy.

High pressure will spread over the area today with plenty of sunshine
and pleasant conditions. Humidity will be lower than Saturday and
afternoon highs will reach the lower 80s northeast to the mid 80s over
the south. Light north winds of 5 to 10 mph will be common by
afternoon. The quiet conditions will extend into tonight with light
south winds and lows in the lower 60s east to the mid 60s west. By
Monday another storm system will move into the Western Plains. This
will increase south winds over the Central Plains and allow for some
moisture return as well as warmer temperatures. Highs Monday will warm
to the upper 80s to 90 from central to western Iowa with lower to mid
80s in the east. As the storm closes in on Iowa later Monday night,
showers and thunderstorms will advance into the state and continue
Tuesday into Tuesday night. Some of the storms may be strong with
brief heavy rainfall Tuesday into Tuesday night. Another storm will
move over Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa and Missouri into Wednesday morning
with additional rainfall possible. After the storm a period of quiet
and cooler weather returns Wednesday, but then a trend toward hot
weather will build into the weekend. By Friday into next Saturday
summertime heat and humidity will return to most of Iowa.
