Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Pago Pago AS
224 PM SST Tue Apr 9 2024

.Short term...
TONIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT...An active trough near south of
the islands will hold scattered showers and isolated
thunderstorms through Wednesday night. The RAOB from this
afternoon depicted an unstable profile with possible thunderstorms
in the vicinity. Models suggest most of the showers will remain
east of the Manu`a islands as the trough slides to the southeast
of the territory. As the trough becomes a low, the band of showers
is expected to develop over the islands on Thursday while slowly
moving west. This will hold numerous showers through Thursday
night.

With the trough to the south, gentle trades will remain through
Thursday night.

.Long term...
FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY...High pressure moving south of the islands
will increase trades to breezy flow on Friday night. However,
remnants from the aforementioned trough will remain near south on
Friday. This will hold numerous showers and gentle winds for
Friday. A shortwave trough is also expected to pass over the
islands on Monday. This will increase showers on Monday before
becoming scattered on Monday night and Tuesday.

&&

.Marine...
Rough seas will gradually build over the area tonight. The trough
to the south will move southeast and the high pressure to the
southwest will increase winds to breezy flow on Friday. This will
hold seas of 7 to 9 feet through the weekend. Seas of 6 to 8 feet
will build 7 to 9 feet on Wednesday. These rough seas will persist
through Tuesday of the new week. Seas are expected to subside 5 to
7 feet on Tuesday night.
