...Drought Continues to Impact the Area...

.SUMMARY OF IMPACTS...

Over the month of July, drought conditions have worsened across
northwest Kansas and southwest Nebraska, while some slight
improvement was noted in parts of northeast Colorado. Extreme
drought conditions expanded to include most of southwest Nebraska
and a larger part of northwest Kansas, and also into extreme
northeast Colorado. The only improvement in drought conditions was
in Cheyenne and Kit Carson counties of northeast Colorado where
moderate drought improved to just abnormally dry conditions. Heavy
rainfall occurred in those areas at the end of the month.

The latest drought monitor was issued on July 28.

Drought intensity is rated on a scale from D0 (abnormally dry) to
D4 (exceptional).

EXCEPTIONAL DROUGHT (D4) was occurring in the following counties:
None.

EXTREME DROUGHT (D3) was occurring in the following counties:

In northwest Kansas:
Decatur,Sheridan,Gove,Thomas,Cheyenne,Rawlins,Wichita.

In southwest Nebraska: Dundy,Red Willow,Hitchcock.

SEVERE DROUGHT (D2) was occurring in the following counties:

In northeast Colorado: Yuma.

In northwest Kansas: Norton,Greeley,Graham,Logan.

MODERATE DROUGHT (D1) was occurring in the following counties:

In northeast Colorado: Kit Carson.

In northwest Kansas: Wallace,Sherman.

ABNORMALLY DRY (D0) was occurring in the following counties:

In northeast Colorado: Cheyenne.

FIRE DANGER...

Summer green up has mitigated some of the fire danger across the
area, however sporadic wild fires did occur in the month of July
on particularly hot and windy days.

AGRICULTURAL...

The Crop Moisture Index, which depicts short-term (up to 4 weeks)
abnormal dryness or wetness affecting agriculture, was Excessively
to Severely dry across nearly the entire area for the week ending
July 30th, 2022.

.PRECIPITATION AND TEMPERATURE OUTLOOKS...

The latest monthly outlook issued by the Climate Prediction
Center for the month of August shows above normal temperatures
and below normal precipitation.

The latest three month outlook issued by the Climate Prediction
Center for the months of August, September and October shows
above normal temperatures and below normal precipitation.

.SEASONAL DROUGHT OUTLOOK...

The latest Seasonal Drought Outlook issued by the Climate
Prediction Center valid through October shows drought persisting
across northwest Kansas and southwest Nebraska, but some
improvement possible in northeast Colorado.

.NEXT ISSUANCE DATE:

This product will be updated by the 5th of each month as long as
drought persists across the area.
