Periods of showers and thunderstorms are expected this morning and afternoon. A few storms could produce large hail and gusty winds this afternoon. South to southwest transport winds between 10-15 MPH are expected, with the exception being near Lake Michigan, where southeasterly readings will prevail. Mixing heights will range between 1500-2500 feet AGL over central and western zones, with values between 500-1000 feet AGL more common closer to Lake Michigan. The aforementioned conditions will promote fair smoke dispersal conditions in inland areas, with poor categories expected closer to the Lake Michigan shoreline. Minimum relative humidities will generally range between 60 and 75 percent. Rain-free conditions will persist through the first half of Wednesday, prior to the return of precip chances during the afternoon and evening as low pressure approaches from the southwest. With drier conditions in place through the first half of the day, lower relative humidity minimums are forecast, with readings ranging between 35-40 percent inland to near 50 percent at the Lake Michigan shoreline. Variable transport winds will range between 5-10 MPH, combining with mixing heights between 2500-4500 ft AGL to support fair to good smoke dispersal conditions during the afternoon hours. The one exception will be along the immediate Lake Michigan shoreline, where lower mixing heights between 1000-2000 ft AGL will hold dispersal conditions in the fair category.
