...NOVEMBRRR 2019 BREAKS 99+ YEAR-OLD RECORDS...

NOVEMBER 12TH AND 13TH WERE THE DAYS SOUTH BEND REACHED ROCK-BOTTOM
DURING A COLD NOVEMBER 2019. HIGHS WERE IN THE 20S AND OVERNIGHT
LOWS REACHED 6 DEGREES. SEVENTEEN OF THE FIRST EIGHTEEN DAYS OF THE
MONTH HAD A DAILY AVERAGE TEMPERATURE BELOW NORMAL. THIS STRETCH,
NOVEMBER 1-18, RANKED AS THE SECOND COLDEST ON RECORD WITH AN
AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 33.2 DEGREES (FIRST COLDEST: 1951, 31.8
DEGREES).

FOUR RECORDS WERE SET AT SOUTH BEND THIS MONTH. NOVEMBER 12TH HAD
TWO RECORDS: THE LOW TEMPERATURE OF 6 DEGREES BROKE THE PREVIOUS
RECORD OF 12 DEGREES IN 1898. THE HIGH TEMPERATURE OF 24 DEGREES SET
A NEW RECORD COLD HIGH TEMPERATURE. THE PREVIOUS RECORD WAS 27 SET
IN 1920. THE LOW TEMPERATURE ON NOVEMBER 13TH OF 6 DEGREES WAS A NEW
RECORD, BREAKING THE PREVIOUS RECORD OF 9 DEGREES IN 1911. LASTLY,
NOVEMBER 11TH SAW A RECORD SNOWFALL OF 6 INCHES. THIS TIES THE
RECORD OF 6 INCHES IN 1907.

THE MEAN TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH WAS 35.6 DEGREES. THIS IS 5.1
DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. THIS RANKS AS THE 14TH COLDEST NOVEMBER ON
RECORD. FOR REFERENCE, NOVEMBER 2018 RANKED 6TH COLDEST ON RECORD
WITH A MEAN TEMPERATURE OF 33.9 DEGREES.

NOVEMBER 11TH FEATURED THE FIRST 1"+ SNOWFALL OF 2019-2020. WITH
RESPECT TO THE FIRST SNOWFALL OF 1 INCH OR MORE IN A WINTER SEASON,
THIS MAY RANK AS THE 6TH GREATEST TOTAL. THE START OF WINTER 2014-
2015 SAW 12.3 INCHES ON NOVEMBER 13TH.

FOR THE MONTH, 6.8 INCHES OF SNOW WAS OBSERVED. THIS IS 2.0 INCHES
ABOVE NORMAL. THIS RANKS AS THE 55TH SNOWIEST ON RECORD. 1.44 INCHES
OF PRECIPITATION WAS OBSERVED. THIS IS 1.83 INCHES BELOW NORMAL.
THIS RANKS AS THE 15TH DRIEST ON RECORD.

ONE ADDITIONAL NOTE FOR THE MONTH WAS A WIND STORM ON THE 27TH IN
WHICH A WIND GUST OF 52 MPH WAS RECORDED. THIS STORM RESULTED IN
SOME PROPERTY DAMAGE INCLUDING DOWNED TREES AND POWER LINES.
