.DISCUSSION...
Widespread critical fire weather conditions are expected today and a
Red Flag Warning remains in effect for the entire forecast area from
noon until 10 PM. Southwest winds will quickly strengthen by midday
with sustained speeds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts up to 40 mph
continuing through the afternoon and evening. Minimum RH values of 5
to 9 percent combined with the breezy conditions will result in RFTI
values of 5 to 6 across most of the region this afternoon with some
localized areas seeing RFTI values of 7 to 8. Winds are expected to
weaken slightly after sunset, but will remain breezy at 15 to 25 mph
out of the southwest overnight with RH recovery of 30 to 45 percent.
Widespread extremely critical fire weather conditions are expected on
Tuesday, therefore a Red Flag Warning is in effect for the entire
forecast area from 10 AM Tuesday until 1 AM Wednesday. Southwest winds
will shift out of the west, quickly strengthening by midday with
sustained wind speeds of 40 to 50 mph and gusts up to 60 mph
continuing through late evening into the overnight period. Minimum RH
values are expected to drop as low as 7 percent which combined with
the above normal temperatures in the 80s and 90s and windy conditions
resulting in widespread RFTI values of 7 to 8. Wind speeds will remain
windy through much of the overnight period, however; overnight recoveries
above the 25th percentile will help alleviate some fire weather concerns
generally after midnight.
