ALTHOUGH DECEMBER ENDED WITH A LARGE SNOWSTORM, JANUARY STARTED OFF
WITH SOME RATHER MILD WEATHER. THE FIRST FOUR DAYS OF THE NEW YEAR
SAW THE TEMPERATURE CLIMB TO NEAR 40. THE NEXT FEW DAYS SAW
TEMPERATURES NEAR NORMAL FOR JANUARY WITH SOME LIGHT PRECIPITATION
FALLING. THE BIG WARM UP CAME IN THE SECOND WEEK OF THE MONTH WITH
AUGUSTA WARMING ALL THE WAY TO 54 DEGREES ON JANUARY 11 AND 51
DEGREES ON JANUARY 12. SOON THE TEMPERATURE DROPPED BACK TO NORMAL
AGAIN AND A PERIOD OF SNOWY WEATHER AND BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES
BEGAN. THE COLDEST TEMPERATURE WAS 3 BELOW ZERO ON THE 18TH. BUT THE
COLD ULTIMATELY DID NOT LAST. THE NEXT WEEK SAW FREQUENTLY WARM
WEATHER AGAIN WITH THE TEMPERATURE TOPPING 40 DEGREES FOUR OUT OF
FIVE DAYS. RAIN FELL ON THE NIGHT OF THE 25TH INTO THE MORNING OF
THE 26TH WHEN 0.91 INCHES WAS RECORDED. TEMPERATURES REMAINED ABOVE
NORMAL TO END THE FIRST MONTH OF 2020.

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH WAS 25.6 DEGREES WHICH WAS 6.3
DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL AND THE 5TH WARMEST JANUARY ON RECORD. THE
WARMEST JANUARY ON RECORD WAS IN 2006 WHEN THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE
WAS 27.5 DEGREES. THE COLDEST WAS 10.4 DEGREES IN 1994. THE
FOLLOWING TABLE LISTS THE WARMEST JANUARYS AT AUGUSTA.

BELOW NORMAL. THE HEAVIEST PRECIPITATION CAME ON THE 26TH WHEN 0.62
INCHES WAS MEASURED. THE WETTEST JANUARY WAS IN 1979 WHEN 9.01
INCHES FELL. THE DRIEST WAS IN 2004 WHEN ONLY 0.33 INCHES WAS
MEASURED.
