Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Central/Northern Vermont and
Northern New York
National Weather Service Burlington VT
455 AM EDT Thu Apr 26 2018

...Showers Likely For Much Of The Area Today...

.DISCUSSION...
Fire weather concerns will be at a minimum today. First much of
the area has received at least a quarter to half inch of rain in
the past 24 hours with some areas picking up a half inch to an
inch...the northern Adirondacks of New York and parts of south
central Vermont. Thus fine dead fuels are wet and today will bring
more showers to northern New York and the northern half of Vermont
as a slow moving upper level low pressure system moves east across
the area today. Additional rainfall will be on the order of a
quarter to half inch of rain. In addition...afternoon relative
humidities will be in the 50 to 70 percent range. The upper low
moves east of the region tonight and precipitation will come to an
end by midnight...with good recoveries expected overnight. No
precipitation is expected Friday morning...but another trough of
low pressure moves up the eastern seaboard and more precipitation
should move back into the region Friday afternoon and Friday
night...especially across Vermont. Afternoon relative humidities
on Friday will be lower than today...but still be in the 45 to 55
percent range. More unsettled weather is expected on Saturday as a
trough of low pressure moves in from the west and brings more
showers and cooler temperatures to the area. Slow drying takes
place on Sunday as northwest flow aloft develops on the backside
of the departing trough of low pressure...but there will still be
some lingering showers around. Warmer and drier conditions are
expected next Monday through Wednesday and this time period will
need to be monitored as plenty of sunshine is expected along with
above normal temperatures and lower afternoon relative humidities
expected. This should help to dry out the fine dead fuels.
