FLOOD CRITERIA CHANGE FOR BRAZOS RIVER AT WEST COLUMBIA TX

ON JUNE 20TH 2024THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE WILL OFFICIALLY
CHANGE THE FLOOD CRITERIA FOR THE BRAZOS RIVER AT WEST COLUMBIA TX.
THE NEW FLOOD CRITERIA HAS BEEN RAISED TO APPROPRIATELY REFLECT
IMPACTS FROM PREVIOUS FLOODS AND RECENT FIELD SURVEYS.

THE CRITERIA WILL BE BASED ON THE FOLLOWING:
ACTION STAGE: 20.0 FEET
FLOOD STAGE: 26.0 FEET (PREVIOUSLY 23.0 FEET)
MODERATE FLOOD: 27.0 FEET (PREVIOUSLY 25.0 FEET)
MAJOR FLOOD: 28.0 FEET (PREVIOUSLY 27.0 FEET)

PLEASE NOTE THE NEW LEVELS ARE ALREADY ON THE WEBPAGE (WATER.NOAA.GOV)
IN ORDER ACCURATELY CONVEY FLOOD IMPACTS DURING THE CURRENT FLOOD EVENT.
HOWEVER, IF THERE IS FEEDBACK WITHIN THE PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD THAT SUGGESTS
THESE VALUES ARE INCORRECT, THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE WILL REEVALUATE
THE LEVELS AND ISSUE ANOTHER 30 DAY PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD.
