Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Missoula MT
239 PM MST Thu Mar 4 2021
.DISCUSSION...Temperatures are still anticipated to be quite warm
for this time of year for the remainder of today and especially
for tomorrow. Many locations will be in the 50s and 60s, with
lower elevations in Idaho getting up to 70 degrees, by Friday
afternoon. These readings will put some locations near daily
records.
A weak cold front is still expected to sweep through the Northern
Rockies on Saturday. This front will bring cooler temperatures and
widespread shower activity. The mountains will pick up a couple
inches of new snow, while the valleys will receive a rain or
rain/snow mix. These cooler temperatures and shower activity will
linger into Sunday.
A broad trough of low pressure will set up over the western United
States next week. The trough will keep temperatures near to
slightly below normal for the Northern Rockies through at least
Thursday, while also causing fairly active periods of
precipitation. The models are still suggesting that a weak
circulation will move through the region Tuesday and Tuesday night
potentially bringing a decent amount of snow to the higher terrain
south of the I-90 corridor, but confidence is still fairly low on
this scenario.
&&
.AVIATION...Pilots should anticipate fair flying conditions over
the Northern Rockies for the next 24 hours. The only concern will
be pockets of fog developing during the morning hours near lakes
and rivers, but at this time fog is not a concern at local
terminals.
