High pressure will remain established over the Northern Rockies through Sunday. This pattern will keep precipitation out of the forecast and daytime high temperatures above average. Sunday will be the warmest day, with high temperatures getting into the low 80s in the lower valleys of western Montana and the upper 80s for the lower Salmon and Clearwater River valleys of Idaho. By Monday, the ridge will flatten and upper level flow will become northwesterly. Model guidance is showing some shortwave energy embedded in the larger scale flow moving across the Idaho Panhandle and northwest Montana. This disturbance will bring enough moisture to fuel showers over northwest Montana. An associated cold front will drop temperatures closer to seasonable norms. The front will also bring gusty westerly winds on Monday afternoon. Model ensemble solutions diverge by the middle of next week.
