Weather Summary for the Local Tri-State Region
National Weather Service New York NY
531 AM EDT Tue Jul 16 2019

This week will feature an increase in mid Summer swelter across
the entire region. The weather pattern that will set up is a
classic one for giving the area its hottest and stickiest weather.

High pressure will move offshore today allowing the gates to open
for southern tropical moisture to begin moving in. This stream of
increasing heat and moisture will continue the entire week, and
last into the weekend.

There will be some interruption of the heat but not the humidity,
when remnants of tropical system Barry move across our area
Wednesday night into Thursday. The disturbance will bring an
increase in cloud cover during this time frame, which will likely
pause the daily increase in temperature.

Showers and thunderstorms from the mid week system could be heavy
in some spots, with rain totals averaging between 1 and 1 1/2
inches.

The worst of the heat and humidity develops Friday and Saturday
with indications of heat index values in excess of 100 degrees
both days.
