...River Forecasts for the new Olmsted Locks and Dam...

Over the last several months, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
has decommissioned both Brookport Locks and Dam and Grand Chain
Locks and Dam, located on the Ohio River. The physical structures
will eventually be removed. Both of these locations were flood-
only river forecast points and have been removed from the WFO
Paducah Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service (AHPS) page. No
forecasts will be issued anymore for these locations.

The new Olmsted Locks and Dam was officially opened in late
August 2018. This project will reduce barge/tow delays and improve
navigation along the lower Ohio River. This location will take
the place of the two decommissioned sites. River information for
both the headwater/pool and the tailwater can be found on the WFO
Paducah AHPS page located at

Flood-only forecasts will be issued for the Olmsted headwater or
pool by the Lower Mississippi River Forecast Center. There is
still much work to be done as far as model calibration before
forecasts may be issued for this location. It is anticipated that
flood-only forecasts will be issued beginning sometime in the
Spring of 2019. Forecasts will be issued when the pool stage
reaches or is forecast to reach 34 feet. The Flood Stage for
Olmsted will be 36 feet. WFO Paducah will be responsible for
issuing Flood Warnings and Statements as necessary.
