It then moved along HWY 1 near the Westdale community, snapping and uprooting numerous trees along Henry`s BBQ St. as it continued eastward. The tornado crossed the Red River before taking a more northeastward track, snapping and uprooting numerous trees along HWY 515, US HWY 71, Stephens Rd., Boyette Rd., and Salters Rd. The tornado snapped a few more trees before lifting along US HWY 371, just north of Woodardville. A special thanks goes out to the National Severe Storms Laboratory (NSSL) for sharing uncrewed aircraft data from a drone which they gathered on their research mission. This data unveiled new damage which was not observed via the ground survey and increased the damage path length by 2.5 miles. .Wind Damage - Northwestern Union Parish... Estimated Peak Wind: 75-85 mph Path Length /statute/: 5 miles Path Width /maximum/: 2000 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 04/07/2021 Start Time: 04:48 PM CDT Start Location: 5 NW of Spearsville / Union Parish / LA Start Lat/Lon: 32.9925 / -92.6731 End Date: 04/07/2021 End Time: 04:53 PM CDT End Location: 3 N of Spearsville / Union Parish / LA End Lat/Lon: 32.9925 / -92.6010 Survey: A large collapsing thunderstorm produced widespread damaging winds in northwestern Union parish around the Rum Center community. The generated winds were generally highest, estimated around 85 mph, at the start of the downburst near and south of the intersection Tucker Store road and Pilgrims Rest Church road intersection. Here many trees were uprooted and a few of these trees damaged homes and outbuildings. Isolated to scattered downed trees were noted farther east with damage intensifying back to the 75 to 80 mph range along Van Bennet and Ervin roads just south of Tucker Store road, although here the damage was limited mostly to uprooted trees with one home having partial loss of its tin roof covering. The downburst damage signal quickly faded east of these areas. It is worth noting the collapsing storm did display radar rotation, although there was no tornado debris signature and all downed trees were observed to fall generally in the southeasterly direction. In addition, there were not indications of convergence typical to tornadic damage in the downed trees, lending confidence to the diagnosis of damage being caused by straight-line winds. A special thanks goes out to Union Parish Emergency Management and Union Parish Sheriffs Office for their assistance in the survey process. .Tornado #3 - Northwestern Ouachita Parish... Rating: EF0 Estimated Peak Wind: 85 mph Path Length /statute/: 2.8214 miles Path Width /maximum/: 50.0 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 04/07/2021 Start Time: 06:48 PM CDT Start Location: 5 SSE Downsville / Ouachita Parish / LA Start Lat/Lon: 32.5509 / -92.3982 End Date: 04/08/2021 End Time: 06:51 PM CDT End Location: 5 SE Downsville / Ouachita Parish / LA End Lat/Lon: 32.569 / -92.355 Summary: This weak tornado started near the intersection of Abe Benton road and Sibley road northwest of Calhoun. The narrow tornado continued to track east northeast for a few miles, doing pockets of minor tree damage across Highway 151, Francis road, Leon Linder road, and around route 837 coming into the community of Eureka before lifting. Fortunately, there was little to no observed structural damage, although the survey team did intermittently find some pieces of tin roofing that they could not source. The initial portion of the tornado was coincident with a tornado debris signature from the University of Louisiana at Monroe radar, lending confidence to the tornado diagnosis. Special thanks goes out to the Ouachita Parish Emergency Management for their assistance in this survey. EF Scale: The Enhanced Fujita Scale classifies tornadoes into the following categories. EF0...Weak......65 TO 85 mph EF1...Weak......86 TO 110 mph EF2...Strong....111 TO 135 mph EF3...Strong....136 TO 165 mph EF4...Violent...166 TO 200mph EF5...Violent...>200mph NOTE: The information in this statement is preliminary and subject to change pending final review of the events and publication in NWS Storm Data. $$ 12/50/04
