...RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO
6 AM MDT THURSDAY FOR DRY THUNDERSTORMS AND GUSTY OUTFLOW WINDS
FOR FIRE WEATHER ZONES 479, 480, 481, 482, 483, 484, AND 488...

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...Isolated to widely scattered dry thunderstorms
today across much of the state. The biggest threat will be across
southern Utah this afternoon, transitioning to northern Utah
this evening continuing across northern Utah overnight. Additional
showers and thunderstorms will develop Thursday afternoon/evening
and will trend wetter except across western and northwest Utah,
where storms should remain drier.

.DISCUSSION...Shower and thunderstorm initation has been a bit delayed
early this afternoon, but development is now underway, mainly
over higher terrain areas of central and south-central Utah thus
far. As moisture continues to ooze into Utah from the south,
expect continued shower and thunderstorm development through the
evening. Activity should initially be most numerous around higher
terrain areas of central and southern Utah, with perhaps another
secondary maxima over western and northwestern Utah mountains.
Shower and thunderstorm coverage will then continue to expand
across central and northern Utah overnight, with widespread
showers and isolated thunderstorms expected across mainly northern
Utah Thursday morning. By Thursday afternoon and early evening,
widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected across the
entire area. Storms should trend towards mainly the wet variety
across all but western and northwestern Utah as Thursday
progresses. As a result, have extended the Red Flag Warning
for zones 478 and 492 through 9PM MDT Friday. Outside of zones
478 and 492, while storms should be mainly wet, it`s worth noting
that an isolated dry thunderstorm or two cannot be ruled out, but
dry coverage should remain limited to isolated coverage, thus the
Red Flag Warning will not be extended at this time. With a few of
the wetter storms, locally heavy rainfall will be possible,
especially on Thursday. This will increase Flash Flood potential
across newer burn scars.

After widespread shower and thunderstorm activity winds down late
Thursday evening, isolated to scattered showers are expected to
linger across mainly central and northeast Utah through Thursday
night. With the aid of daytime heating Friday, widespread shower
and mainly wet thunderstorm activity is once again expected for
generally all but the west deserts and northwest Utah. This should
quickly wind down Friday evening. Expect another round of
isolated showers and thunderstorms for these same areas Saturday
afternoon and evening, with activity beginning to trend drier.

Increasingly hot temperatures are then expected to gradually
build into the region by late weekend and into at least the middle
of next week, with record-setting high temperatures again
possible.

***Thunderstorms imply strong, gusty and erratic winds***
***All winds are 20 foot, 10-minute averages***
