Public Information Statement
National Weather Service Tallahassee FL
420 PM EDT Mon Apr 20 2026

To: Emergency management officials, news media, and other users.

Effective Tuesday, April 28, 2026, the Southeast River Forecast
Center will begin issuing routine daily water level forecasts for
the Pea and Choctawhatchee Rivers as well as the Flint River and its
various tributaries. Locations that will receive these routine daily
forecasts are:

In the Flint River Basin in Southwest Georgia:

Kinchafoonee Creek near Preston (PRSG1)
Kinchafoonee Creek near Dawson at Pinewood Road (DSNG1)
Muckalee Creek near Leesburg (MCKG1)
Flint River at Newton (NEWG1)
Flint River at Bainbridge (BGEG1)

In the Choctawhatchee Basin in Southeast Alabama and Florida
Panhandle:

Pea River at Ariton (ARTA1)
Pea River at Elba (ELBA1)
Choctawhatchee River near Newton (NEWA1)
Choctawhatchee River at Geneva (GNVA1)
Choctawhatchee River near Bruce (BRUF1)

This means that forecasts are issued at least once daily for these
locations. Forecasts will be issued more often during periods of
high water or flood conditions. These forecasts are issued by the
Southeast River Forecast Center in Peachtree City, Georgia. River
flood warnings for these locations are issued by the National
Weather Service in Tallahassee whenever the river is expected to
exceed flood stage.

These enhanced services are a result of ongoing updates to river
modeling by the Southeast River Forecast Center. They also provide
important water level data for a variety of users, including those
in water management monitoring low flow conditions during times of
extreme drought.

The data for these forecast points are provided through our
partners, the US Army Corps of Engineers-Mobile District and the
United States Geological Survey. Without this critical data,
forecasts and warnings would not be possible at these locations.
