...6TH DRIEST JANUARY ON RECORD IN BALTIMORE MD...

THE MONTHLY AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS SLIGHTLY BELOW NORMAL. THIS WAS
THE RESULT OF EXTREME COLD AT THE BEGINNING OF THE MONTH BEING
AVERAGED WITH SIGNIFICANT WARM SPELLS DURING THE MIDDLE AND LATTER
PORTIONS OF THE MONTH. IT WAS THE COLDEST JANUARY SINCE 2016.

MONTHLY PRECIPITATION WAS ONLY 33 PERCENT OF NORMAL. THIS MAKES
JANUARY 2018 THE 6TH DRIEST ON RECORD. IT WAS THE DRIEST JANUARY
SINCE 1981, WHEN 0.49 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION FELL.

MONTHLY SNOWFALL WAS ONLY 33 PERCENT OF NORMAL. IT WAS THE LEAST
SNOWY JANUARY SINCE 2017, WHEN ONLY 0.7 INCHES FELL.

A DAILY RECORD LOW MINIMUM TEMPERATURE OF 1 DEGREE WAS SET ON
JANUARY 7TH. THIS BROKE THE OLD RECORD OF 3 SET IN 2014.

A DAILY RECORD HIGH MINIMUM TEMPERATURE OF 53 DEGREES WAS SET ON
JANUARY 12TH. THIS BROKE THE OLD RECORD OF 49 SET IN 2017.

CLIMATE RECORDS FOR THE BALTIMORE MD AREA HAVE BEEN KEPT AT
BALTIMORE-WASHINGTON INTERNATIONAL THURGOOD MARSHALL AIRPORT SINCE
1950. ADDITIONAL TEMPERATURE RECORDS OBSERVED DOWNTOWN EXTEND BACK
TO JULY OF 1872. PRECIPITATION RECORDS EXTEND BACK TO JANUARY OF
1871. SNOWFALL RECORDS BEGAN IN MARCH OF 1892.
