Fire Weather Planning Forecast for NW Oregon and SW Washington
National Weather Service Portland OR
218 PM PDT Wed Aug 12 2020

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...Cooler than normal temperatures will
continue through Thursday. Weak high pressure to produce gradual
warming Friday before becoming unseasonably warm and unstable
this weekend. Breakdown of the upper level ridge is expected early
next week.

.DISCUSSION...The upper level trough that produced light showers
across the region has moved east and clouds are expected to
gradually clear out through this evening. Marine stratus along the
north Oregon coast will make its way up the Columbia River toward
Portland overnight but won`t stick around for very long in the
morning. The northeast Pacific high is expected to build back and
keep a weak influence over the region. A gradual warming trend
through the end of the week will maintain seasonable conditions.

Throughout the week, high pressure over the southwest US will
strengthen and begin shifting north. By Saturday, the high will be
centered over the Four Corners and will extend over Oregon. The
strengthening of this high will produce hot temperatures across
the region in the upper 90s through the weekend. Inland RH
recoveries will be fair to poor Saturday night. Unstable
conditions are likely Saturday night into Sunday as a weak
disturbance of tropical origin moves north along the coast. This
will likely inject enough moisture into the area to produce
thunderstorms along the coast. Whether or not the instability
moves inland is not known at this time.

A deep low is expected to drop out of the Gulf of Alaska Sunday
night into Monday and breakdown the ridge by early next week.
Gusty conditions are expected across the Gorge with the frontal
passage Monday and Tuesday. Thunderstorm activity is likely with
this pattern but details are uncertain at this time.
