FEBRUARY CONTINUED THE WINTER TREND OF PERSISTENT WARMER THAN NORMAL
WEATHER WITH BRIEF PERIODS OF ARCTIC COLD. THE FIRST WEEK OF THE
MONTH WAS A MILD ONE WITH SEVERAL DAYS IN THE 40S. A WINTER STORM
BROUGHT SNOW, SLEET, AND FREEZING RAIN ON THE 6TH AND 7TH WITH COLD
AIR ARRIVING BEHIND THE STORM. THE COLD DIDN`T LAST LONG, THOUGH, AS
THE MILD WEATHER RETURNED JUST TWO DAYS LATER. MORE SNOW FELL ON THE
13TH WITH ANOTHER SURGE OF ARCTIC AIR JUST IN TIME FOR VALENTINE`S
DAY. THE TEMPERATURE BOTTOMED OUT AT 7 BELOW ZERO ON THE 15TH WHICH
WAS THE COLDEST TEMPERATURE OBSERVED AT MANCHESTER IN MORE THAN TWO
YEARS (SINCE JANUARY 2, 2018). THE TEMPERATURE JUMPED BACK INTO THE
40S THE VERY NEXT DAY. MORE LIGHT SNOW CAME ON THE 18TH WITH ANOTHER
BRIEF SHOT OF COLD WEATHER BEHIND IT. THE WARM WEATHER RETURNED FOR
THE LAST PART OF THE MONTH. THE TEMPERATURE TOPPED 50 DEGREES ON 4
STRAIGHT DAYS FROM THE 23RD THROUGH THE 26TH WITH THE WARMEST BEING
60 DEGREES ON THE 24TH. THIS MARKS THE 5TH FEBRUARY IN A ROW THAT
MANCHESTER HAS REACHED 60 DEGREES. RAIN FELL ON THE 27TH AS THE
WARMER THAN NORMAL WEATHER CONTINUED.

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH WAS 31.7 DEGREES WHICH WAS 3.7
DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. THE WARMEST FEBRUARY WAS IN 2018 WHEN THE
AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS 34.4 DEGREES. THE COLDEST WAS IN 1934 AT
ONLY 13.4 DEGREES.

A TOTAL OF 2.90 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION FELL WHICH WAS 0.12 INCHES
ABOVE NORMAL. THIS INCLUDED 7.7 INCHES OF SNOW AND SLEET. THE
HEAVIEST PRECIPITATION WAS ON THE 6TH AND 7TH WHEN 0.99 INCHES FELL
PRIMARILY IN THE FORM OF SNOW, SLEET, AND FREEZING RAIN. THE WETTEST
FEBRUARY WAS IN 2008 WHEN 7.83 INCHES WAS MEASURED. THE DRIEST HAD
ONLY 0.92 INCHES IN 1968.

HISTORICAL RECORDS AT MANCHESTER BEGAN IN 1885, BUT WITHIN THIS
RECORD THERE REMAIN NUMEROUS YEARS OF UNAVAILABLE DATA. DUE TO THIS,
HISTORICAL RECORDS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED INCOMPLETE AS SOME
SIGNIFICANT EXTREMES MAY BE MISSING FROM THE DATA. MORE CONSISTENT
MODERN RECORDS BEGAN IN 1998 AND CONTINUE TO THE PRESENT.
