MARCH CONTINUED THE WINTER TREND OF MOSTLY MILD WEATHER PUNCTUATED
BY BRIEF PERIODS OF COOLER CONDITIONS. MUCH OF THE FIRST HALF OF
MARCH WAS WARMER THAN NORMAL, OFTEN SIGNIFICANTLY SO. THE LAST OF
THE WINTER SNOW COVER HAD MELTED BY THE MORNING OF MARCH 5. THE
WARMEST TEMPERATURE WAS ON THE 9TH WHEN IT REACHED 70 DEGREES. THERE
WERE A FEW COOLER DAYS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MONTH ALONG WITH SOME
RAIN. A LATE SEASON WINTER STORM DROPPED MORE THAN 6 INCHES OF SNOW
ON MARCH 23 AND 24, BUT THE LATE MARCH SUN AND MILD WEATHER MEANT
THAT THIS SNOW DID NOT STICK AROUND LONG.

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH WAS 39.0 DEGREES WHICH WAS 5.5
DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL AND THE 4TH WARMEST MARCH ON RECORD. THE
WARMEST MARCH WAS IN 2012 WHEN THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS 41.1
DEGREES. THE COOLEST WAS IN 1956 WHEN IT WAS 25.6 DEGREES. THE
FOLLOWING TABLE LISTS THE WARMEST MARCHES ON RECORD.

A TOTAL OF 3.44 INCHES PRECIPITATION FELL WHICH WAS 0.80 INCHES
BELOW NORMAL AND THE 4TH CONSECUTIVE DRIER THAN NORMAL MARCH. THE
HEAVIEST PRECIPITATION WAS ON THE 23RD AND 24TH WHEN 1.02 INCHES OF
RAIN AND MELTED SNOW FELL. THE DRIEST MARCH WAS IN 1915 WHEN ONLY
0.09 INCHES FELL. THE WETTEST WAS IN 2010 WITH 11.24 INCHES.

A TOTAL OF 6.1 INCHES OF SNOW FELL WHICH WAS 6.6 INCHES BELOW NORMAL
AND THE LEAST SNOWY MARCH SINCE 2015. ALL OF THIS SNOW FELL ON THE
23RD AND 24TH IN THE ONLY SIGNIFICANT SNOWSTORM OF THE MONTH. THE
SNOWIEST MARCH WAS IN 1993 WHEN 49.0 INCHES FELL. NO SNOW FELL IN
MARCH 1946. AN ADDITIONAL 3 YEARS RECORDED ONLY A TRACE OF SNOW,
MOST RECENTLY IN 1979.
