Another steamy summer day occurred across Kansas this afternoon
with temperatures in the upper 80s to the upper 90s. The far

degrees. Heat indices were generally around 100 degrees. There are
a couple of scattered showers and thunderstorms in the southwest
corner of Kansas. Winds were variable at 5 to 10 mph.

Thunderstorms across the Panhandles and southwest Kansas will
continue into the evening. Their eastward progression could be
limited and may stay in western Oklahoma. Additional
thunderstorms may develop across northwest Kansas into Nebraska
this evening, and this activity could move into central and
northeast Kansas overnight. Strong to severe storms are possible
with up to ping pong ball sized hail and 70 mph winds. Overnight
temperatures are forecast to drop to the upper 50s to mid 60s in
the High Plains and the upper 60s to lower 70s for the rest of the
Central Plains. Winds will be variable at 5 to 10 mph.

As the ridge builds in, the heat will stay for most locations in
the Central Plains to end the week and move into the weekend. High
temperatures are forecast to again be in the 90s with heat indices
around 100 degrees. Northern Nebraska should be a bit cooler with
highs in the lower 80s. East to southeast winds are expected to
