464 FZUS52 KKEY 080954 CWFKEY Coastal Waters Forecast for the Florida Keys National Weather Service Key West FL 554 AM EDT Tue Oct 8 2024 Florida Bay, Hawk Channel and Straits of Florida from Ocean Reef to south of Dry Tortugas, and the extreme southeastern Gulf of Mexico, including The Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary Seas are given as significant wave height, which is the average height of the highest 1/3 of the waves. Individual waves may be more than twice the significant wave height. Wave Detail will include details about the period and direction of origin for the highest energy waves. Long-period swells coming from a different direction than the wind would be included in the Wave Detail. GMZ005-081600- Synopsis for Keys coastal waters from Ocean Reef to Dry Tortugas 554 AM EDT Tue Oct 8 2024 .SYNOPSIS...Gentle to moderate southwest to west breezes will briefly slacken this afternoon before quickly increasing and shifting to the southeast to south tonight as Hurricane Milton approaches. Hurricane Milton is expected to make its closest approach sometime Wednesday as it heads gains some speed and moves northeastward towards Florida`s West Gulf Coast. Due to this, a Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for all Keys coastal waters and a Hurricane Watch is in effect for the offshore Gulf waters. An extended period of hazardous marine conditions are expected through Wednesday night. While conditions improve late week, moderate to fresh northeast to east breezes are expected to continue through the weekend.
