The National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued a

* Special Marine Warning for...
  Coastal waters from Surf City to Cape Fear NC out 20 nm...

* Until 1230 PM EDT.

* At 1129 AM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing
  waterspouts and wind gust greater than 33 knots was located over
  North Masonboro Island, moving northeast at 15 knots.

  HAZARD...Waterspouts and wind gusts 34 knots or greater.

  SOURCE...Radar.

  IMPACT...Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally
           hazardous seas. Small craft could be damaged in briefly
           higher winds and suddenly higher waves.

* Locations impacted include...
  10 Mile Boxcars, Liberty Ship, Dallas Rock, South Masonboro Island,
  Billy Murrell Reef, Johnny Mercer Pier, Masonboro Sea Buoy, Harris
  Reef, 10 Mile Rocks, Topsail Boxcars, Topsail Tire Reef, Rich
  Inlet, Figure Eight Island, 5 Mile Boxcars, North Masonboro Island,
  Topsail Beach, and Wrightsville Beach.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until these storms pass.
If caught on the open water, prepare for deteriorating conditions.
Make sure you and your crew are wearing properly fitted life jackets.
