Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Glasgow MT
259 AM MDT Tue Jul 27 2021

Excessively hot conditions are expected to occur across NE Montana
today with highs ranging from 95 to 110 degrees. In addition, look
for afternoon relative humidity as low as 5 to 20 percent for most
locations. Winds will generally be light, and tend to turn to the
north and northwest this afternoon with a cold frontal passage,
and eventually northeast. While brief gusty winds may occur with
the frontal passage, most of the breezy conditions will likely
occur late afternoon and evening. The combination of dry and
breezy at times conditions will continue to be monitored for fire
weather impacts, but critical conditions are not expected to be
widespread at this time. Otherwise, existing excessive heat
warning products look on track.

Expect temperatures to be "not as hot" for the second half of the
week with modest relative humidity recoveries as well following
the frontal passage. That said, temperatures in general will
likely remain above normal for the foreseeable future. Do look at
the possibility for more unsettled conditions with thunderstorms
possible Wednesday night into Thursday with some weak shortwave
activity, but coverage will be isolated to widely scattered, or
very hit and miss. The main story in the extended period per most
ensemble members will be the upper level ridge pattern maintaining
its hold over the western U.S. and influencing mostly hot and dry
weather reaching into NE Montana.

VFR conditions will prevail, but temporary MVFR may occur at times
due to haze and smoke.

Look for light and variable winds this morning, turning west to
northwest during the afternoon and northeast this evening,
generally ranging 5 to 15 kts with occasional higher gusts through
the TAF period.
