Regional Weather Summary
National Weather Service Wichita KS
438 PM CDT Sat Mar 23 2024

It has been a cool day across the region with temperatures this
afternoon only in the 40s and 50s for most. Some locations across
southwest Kansas and eastern Colorado are in the 60s. A few light
showers with some ice pellets mixed in are making their way across
central and eastern Kansas this afternoon as well. During the
overnight hours, showers and storms will begin to develop across
much of Kansas and into eastern Nebraska. Tonight`s lows will
generally be in upper 30s to 40s.

Sunday will be a very busy day across Mid-America. Scattered
showers and storms are expected to continue Sunday morning across
the eastern halves of Kansas and Nebraska and will move into
Missouri. Strong non-thunderstorm winds are also expected to
overspread much of Kansas and portions of southern Nebraska with
wind gusts between 50 to 60 mph expected. Much drier air entering
southwest Kansas will create elevated to critical fire weather
concerns during the afternoon hours. Later in the afternoon or
evening, another round of thunderstorms is expected to develop
across portions of western Kansas and southern Nebraska. These
storms may be strong to severe with large hail and damaging winds
gusts being the main concerns. A tornado or two cannot be ruled
out. Storms should progress eastward through evening and nighttime
hours, and they will gradually lose their severity as they move
east. Meanwhile, rain across western Nebraska and northwest Kansas
will transition to snow late Sunday night. Highs Sunday afternoon
will range from the mid 50s across northeast Kansas and northern
Missouri to the mid 70s across southwest Kansas. Lows Sunday night
will range from the upper teens across eastern Colorado, western
Nebraska and northeast Kansas to the mid 50s across southeast
Kansas and southern Missouri.
