.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 1015 AM EDT Mon Apr 22 2024
Current surface analysis places a frontal boundary extending from
around Lake Okeechobee southwestward into the southeastern Gulf of
Mexico. KBYX Doppler Radar is detecting a few showers and
isolated thunderstorms in the zone of best confluence ahead of the
front, mainly in the vicinity of Marco Island in southwestern
Florida. Closer to home, skies are mostly sunny across the island
chain, with temperatures mainly near 80F and light southwest to
west winds.

The aforementioned front will continue to progress southeastward
through this afternoon. However, the 12z sounding at KEY sampled
quite dry air remaining in place across the Florida Keys above
900 mb. Thus, only an isolated shower is expected for most
locations, with the exception of the extreme Upper Keys, which may
see an isolated thunderstorm over the South Florida Mainland then
dive southward and clip a few of those communities. Overall, the
forecast is on track, with no changes proposed for this late
Monday morning update.

A weak front will move through the Florida Keys coastal waters
this afternoon, with light to gentle southwest to west breezes
becoming moderate to fresh from the northwest. Fresh to strong

portions of the marine zones for these periods. Moderate
northeast to east breezes will prevail from late Tuesday night
through Thursday. Strengthening high pressure over the western

Keys marine zones beginning Friday, lasting into the weekend.

extended forecast period.
