.DISCUSSION...
A Red Flag Warning has been issued for Wednesday afternoon-evening
for portions of south central Nebraska roughly along and west of a
line from Genoa to Kearney to Beaver City.
Dry conditions are expected to continue on into the day on
Wednesday...and gusty southerly winds are expected area-wide. High
temperatures are once again forecast to reach into the 80s...with
those southerly winds gusting potentially near 35-40 MPH. There is
some uncertainty with dewpoints, and how much mixing out will occur.
With the increased southerly flow tonight-Wednesday, dewpoints into
the 50s will be working their way northward. During the afternoon
hours, models suggest some mixing occurs, with the potential for
those NNW areas to have dewpoints drop into the 40s. The Red Flag
Warning includes the areas with the best potential for relative
humidity values to drop to/below 25 percent...the further NW you go,
the better potential for values under 20 percent.
Thursday will also bring the potential for more widespread near-
critical to critical fire weather conditions...as a passing frontal
boundary ushers in gusty, more westerly winds and dewpoints dropping
into the teens and 20s. Likelihood is increase that a fire headline
will be needed for Thursday for at least the western portions of the
forecast area.
