...DROUGHT CONDITIONS HAVE CONTINUED TO IMPROVE ACROSS ALL OF
WESTERN AND NORTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA OVER THE PAST MONTH...


.SYNOPSIS...

SINCE THE MIDDLE OF MARCH...ABUNDANT PRECIPITATION HAD OCCURRED
ACROSS MOST OF WESTERN AND NORTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA. A STORM SYSTEM
BROUGHT WIDESPREAD RAIN TO THE REGION ON THE WEEKEND OF MARCH 13-
14TH. FOR MARCH...NORTH PLATTE TALLIED ITS SECOND WETTEST MARCH ON
RECORD AND VALENTINE RECORDED ITS 8TH WETTEST MARCH ON RECORD.
IMPERIAL HAD ITS 11TH WETTEST MARCH ON RECORD. OVER THE PAST 30
DAYS...PRECIPITATION WAS RUNNING 130 TO AS MUCH AS 300 PERCENT OF
NORMAL ACROSS WESTERN AND NORTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA. IN THE SHORT TERM,
DROUGHT CONDITIONS HAVE BEEN MITIGATED ACROSS ALL OF WESTERN AND
NORTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA. HOWEVER...LONG TERM DROUGHT CONDITIONS
CONTINUE ACROSS SOUTHWESTERN NEBRASKA.


.LOCAL AREAS AFFECTED...

AS OF APRIL 15TH...ACCORDING TO THE US DROUGHT MONITOR...SEVERE
DROUGHT CONDITIONS WERE OCCURRING OVER CHASE...HAYES...FRONTIER AND
SOUTHERN PERKINS AND FAR SOUTHERN LINCOLN COUNTY. MODERATE DROUGHT
CONDITIONS WERE OCCURRING OVER CENTRAL LINCOLN...NORTHERN
PERKINS...FAR SOUTHERN KEITH...DEUEL AND WESTERN PORTIONS OF GARDEN
AND SHERIDAN COUNTY. ELSEWHERE ACROSS THE REMAINDER OF WESTERN AND
NORTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA ABNORMALLY DRY CONDITIONS WERE SEEN WITH THE
EXCEPTION OF WHEELER...GARFIELD...EASTERN CUSTER AND SOUTHEASTERN
PORTIONS OF LOUP AND HOLT COUNTIES.

AVERAGE TEMPERATURES FOR THE LAST 3 MONTHS WERE ABOVE NORMAL ACROSS
WESTERN AND NORTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA IN JANUARY AND MARCH AND WELL
BELOW NORMAL IN FEBRUARY.

.RIVER AND RESERVOIR CONDITIONS...

RIVER LEVELS ON THE SOUTH PLATTE WERE RUNNING IN THE 10TH TO 25TH
PERCENTILE FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR. RIVER LEVELS ON THE LOUP AND
NIOBRARA RIVERS WERE GENERALLY IN THE 76TH TO 90TH PERCENTILE FOR
THIS TIME OF YEAR. RIVER LEVELS ALONG THE NORTH PLATTE SYSTEM BELOW
LAKE MCCONAUGHY WERE NEAR NORMAL FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR. STREAMS IN
THE FRENCHMAN AND STINKING WATER BASINS IN SOUTHWEST NEBRASKA WERE
RUNNING BELOW THE 10TH PERCENTILE. ALL MAJOR RIVER SYSTEMS ACROSS
WESTERN AND NORTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA HAD SLIGHTLY LOWER PERCENTILE
FLOWS COMPARED TO ONE MONTH AGO.

LAKE MCCONAUGHY CURRENTLY HAS AN ELEVATION OF 3248.8 FEET OR 74.2%
OF CAPACITY. THIS COMPARES TO AN ELEVATION OF 3255.9 FEET ONE YEAR AGO.

.FIRE DANGER IMPACTS...

EVEN WITH THE RECENT RAIN AND SNOWFALL...ONE HOUR FUELS ACROSS WESTERN
AND NORTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA WILL CURE QUICKLY AND WILL BE READY TO BURN.
GREENUP TYPICALLY OCCURS IN LATE APRIL TO EARLY MAY.

FROM APRIL 22ND THROUGH THE 28TH CALLS FOR BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES
AND BELOW NORMAL PRECIPITATION.

THE LATEST 30 DAY OUTLOOK FOR MAY CALLS FOR ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES
FOR ALL OF WESTERN AND NORTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA. THE PRECIPITATION
OUTLOOK FOR MAY CALLS FOR EQUAL CHANCES FOR ABOVE...BELOW OR NEAR
NORMAL PRECIPITATION FOR ALL OF WESTERN AND NORTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA.

THE LATEST 3 MONTH TEMPERATURE OUTLOOK FOR MAY...JUNE AND JULY CALLS
FOR ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES ALL OF WESTERN AND NORTH CENTRAL
NEBRASKA. THE PRECIPITATION OUTLOOK FOR THE SAME TIME PERIOD IS FOR
BELOW NORMAL PRECIPITATION FOR ALL OF WESTERN AND NORTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA.
